Tennessee Hauntings

List Of Haunted Sites In The State Of Tennessee

Note -- make sure you get permission before visiting/investigating ANY site...most places are private property, and even the public ones are patrolled by law enforcement because of vandals. TRAX does not endorse any activity which breaks the law, including trespassing. Show respect for others, even those who have passed away, lest you find yourself dealing with some instant karma that isn't a lot of fun...namely, spending the night in jail charged with trespassing!

The Bell Witch

The Bell Witch, being one of the most well-known and even infamous hauntings of all times, naturally heads the list of haunted sites in Tennessee.

Located in Adams, TN, this haunting centered around the Bell family in the nineteenth century, and has many characteristics of a poltergeist type of haunting. Yet, many things the Bell Witch did can not be defined or limited by that label.

Today, there is a cave on the old Bell property that people can pay to tour. It is open from spring to fall, and closes due to flooding in the event of rain. There have been many reports of strange noises being heard in the cave, as well as pictures taken with anomalies showing up.

Rather than re-invent the wheel, I will include links here to sites that have focused on this bizarre experience, where you can get more information and learn more about it.  This is truly a fascinating case, one that still captures people's imaginations even today.

 Chapel Hill

There is a railroad crossing in Chapel Hill where many people have reported a strange, unexplainable light on the tracks. The story goes that a railroad worker was killed, decapitated by a train, many years ago. The light is said to be him swinging a lantern looking for his head. Unfortunately, the police do not allow people to park beside the tracks, for obvious safety reasons, so you will need permission to visit.
